Quito, Ecuador
Quito, Ecuador, the oldest capital in the Southern Hemisphere, is located high in the Andean Range. With an altitude just under 3000 m
(10.000 feet), Quito enjoys a moderate climate and much sun. Days are typically cool in the morning, warm in the afternoon and cool again in the evening. Light clothing and sweaters are all one needs for daily activities. In 1978 UNESCO declared Quito a World Cultural Heritage site. Legislation strictly controls the building of modern structures, so that
the city retains much of its colonial charm. A city of contrasts, the colonial section is famous for its magnificent architecture, churches and open plazas. Modern Quito offers elegant shopping malls, exciting night clubs and beautiful parks. In addition, Quito is the cultural hub of Ecuador and therefore has some of the country's finest museums and art galleries. You will find the famous handicraft market in Otavalo and Mitad the Mundo (the Middle of the World) in San
Antonio, which can be easily reached within one to two hours by car. Ecuador is a relatively inexpensive country to live in and visit. You will find all sorts of high quality goods and services at low prices here.
Spanish Language School in Quito
Academía de Español Guayasamín is located in the new city of Quito. A ten minute walk from the school will bring you right into the historic area of Guapulo and the valley of Cumbaya. Also located within walking distance are many restaurants, shops and museums, as well
as some of Quito's most beautiful parks. The school is situated in a quiet, safe area of Quito, and all of the family housing is within walking distance. Students stay with typical Ecuadorian families which provide them with daily opportunities to practice their Spanish. We offer many choices of family housing, such as families with or without children and/or pets, vegetarian cooking,
non-smoking residences etc. We work hard to accomodate the student's individual needs, and provide them with airport shuttles upon arrival and departure.
